@islanderitguy.bsky.social
IT guy from Guam working in DC.
I was one of those GUI sysadmins until two years ago, when I switched roles and was required me to update or modify attributes of several hundred AD objects at a time.

After hour of trying this in ADUC, I forced myself to learn simple gets, sets, and foreach loops.

I’ve never looked back.

I am also a Chamorro dude in DC (well, northern Virginia, employed for a place located in DC but actually works offsite/telework entirely) who also happens to be a mediocre uke player.

We should connect!

But my biggest regret in life is prioritizing English TOO much and never learning my native language, or at least not to the degree I could carry on a conversation.

Do you have a website I can order learning material?

I was born and raised on Guam, and moved to DC for my career in 2006. I lived the culture, but I was part of the generation that was told to prioritize English over Chamoru to get ahead in life.

My command of the language of our colonizers is better than most people I encounter here…

I abhor Excel, and basically only use it to review and send exported csv files as “reports” to non-techies.

My wife, on the other hand is an Excel goddess at her job and had the aptitude to learn PowerShell. I passed the invite to her.
