This is why I've avoided reading books on my own until I have a good grasp of arabic, and stuck to lectures personally from the shuyookh of the haqq

I mean, this isn't an issue with books, it's an issue with the people reading them

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only issue with books, can be if someone reads a book far above their level, then they take statements of the salaf and twist,turn & misapply/miscontextualize . For example, I've seen people do this with ibn taymiyyah's systems about the rafidhah
