Not only is this immensely inappropriate coming from the official WH account, it also speaks to greater underlying issues. This administration will call people they want to deport “terrorists”, but with no due process. Utterly terrifying.

Doing this only harms SCOTUS’ power. Roberts clearly doesn’t want a big showdown between judiciary and executive, but not putting up any resistance now will only cause the executive to keep pushing until they either find the court’s limit or until the court has effectively given up all it’s power.

In his consideration of trade imbalances, Trump is completely forgetting services, and is only counting goods. With a trade surplus of services at nearly $300 billion, that indicates a healthy economy. A developed country will have more tertiary and quaternary and less primary sector jobs.

Unfortunately, the founders also envisaged a system without parties, one where branches would balance the power of other branches. Since the 80s, the US has become increasingly partisan to the point where now its government can’t operate as intended.

The Trump administration seems to be doing everything it can to pick and win a fight with SCOTUS. They are aware the judicial system doesn’t have many powers to enforce its rulings. If they can get a decision to go their way it substantially strengthens the executive’s position across the board.

Due to globalisation, when a major economic power sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold. Whilst this may be the start of the downfall of the US’ economic power, other countries such as China will fill the gap left. With the global economy so interconnected, this problem is likely to remain.

Admittedly I’m not American, but I think this reveals how destructive partisan politics has been to the US. Republicans will continue to support Trump as long as he maintains his cult-like popularity. Thanks to SCOTUS, he’s now basically invincible in office. Impeachment is unlikely I think.

Sadly, as put very well by Ezra Klein: Republicans in Congress have turned into NPCs. They’re not acting to protect their own congressional powers (impoundment etc) from the executive, let alone their constituents.
