I bonded with him because his fear was so immense and yet he trusted me. He grew from a terrified animal into a sweet and friendly old dog, and I’m not sure if many people know how much older dogs can change. That old aphorism is not accurate. #DogsOfBluesky

It’s been almost 2 years now since he passed but I still mourn Mohawk. He was a sled dog rescue from North Pole. Deeply traumatized, it took him years to allow men to pet him. Around age 9 he became an inside dog and started warming to all people. #RescueDog #AlaskanHusky #Sleddog

I’m so grateful for this little guy who reminds me to smile. He came from a high-kill shelter and spent time on the streets near LA. He is so completely psyched to be alive and to be with us here in #Alaska. #DogsofBlueSky

I’ve had trouble posting this week. It felt like work, and I second guessed whether I had anything meaningful to say. Today as I scrolled through a feed filled with news I realized, maybe its related to toxic stress and the crumbling of society. Also there was a leak at work. #FirstWorldProblems

Here is a mask made by my Dad, Jerry Laktonen. YOU can support #Native arts by purchasing tribal arts, jewelry, and other creative works. Just be sure that you are purchasing authentic Native arts and not fraudulent. It is a crime to label art as Native-made if it is non-Native-made.

Ziggy was rescued from a high kill shelter in California, and the rescue organization transported him to Alaska to start a new life with my family. He LOVES his new life! If you love #huskies and can handle *husky realities,* please consider a husky #rescuedog! #dogsofbluesky #siberianhusky

I’ve been thinking about G. Vizenor’s concept of #survivance and what it may mean for #Indigenous, #NativeAmerican, and #AlaskaNative communities n the coming years. We must perpetuate the survival of our cultures and communities. This means pragmatism over when to resist and when to survive.
