New car or old car?

Temporary transit plate? Allows you to drive the car from country A to country B and then import it officially - they always look very odd.

My, we walked past it today and I didn't even notice. But from above, that is awesome.

Antwerp....shrugs.. (I know a speech and language therapist from elsewhere in Flanders who was told she was....unintelligible in Antwerp...I mean, really..)

As an Anglophone family in Belgium, this is often on the family chat as ' French for the day' There also Dutch 'words of the day' in a similar fashion.

It's all really wild, I think. Our younger son, like his brother, was above the 95th percentile for weight at 4 months but by 5 years old, was on the 4th percentile for height (I blame my beloved - his family just do huge babies who turn into average or small adults)

(A Finn once told my beloved '90% of business deals in Finland are done in the sauna')

Our family whatsapp group is pretty active but once my boys left home, that was it, I wouldn't dream of tracking them (I didn't before they left home but I'm not sure the option was there - I never really thought about it). They are adults after all.

I can only have one book at a time and then have to read it - even if it takes all day..instead of washing shopping etc. As a consequence,I actually sometimes don't have a book on the go at all..because washing and shopping need to be done, at least sometimes.

This is apparently still used in the United States - but UK based education is more phonic based - although sometimes, in some cases 'whole words' or 'sight words' are learned separately.

@oldenoughtosay.com Have you got a link to that thread Madeline?
November 29, 2025 at 12:38 PM
I think it might honestly be worth sorting these reflections by country - Covid is of course one influence, but recent threads indicate that teaching of reading is very different in the US compared to the UK and might impact understanding of complex, unfamiliar texts.

Any particular spices that Tâf would like to be made more accessible?

The young people are largely very nice, and considerate, I think. (Mind you, I still get confused when we are eating out and half the table next door get up and leave...'Where are they going? They haven't paid. Ah, yes, fag break..')

No policy but optimism is a start..

I would love a picture view of American mac and cheese- but sometimes, online, it's too annoying, sigh. Get that but it's a shame..

It's a bit odd when their values are not yours.. but well.. we are where we are. They are all amazing and interesting.

Also, Black Friday is just insane- I remember abandoning all hope when the riot police had to be called over a riot over televisions on Black Fiday somewhere in Greater London about 15 years ago

All of the above re. Heights. Here in Belgium they up on a roof as a national sport - hanging out of high windows ditto. Spring and summer are worst of course. Gives me the heebbie geebies (sic) every time.

I've done it on the train and in a car. I think it's great (but the music is an earworm, it's true)
