I am not a politician and I do not need to win hearts and minds. Plus I was just expressing the opinion of the Europeans not wanting to come here. In my workplace we needed the best and brightest from Europe to come and work with us to be able to compete internationally, and we struggle now.

I mentioned this, and it was ‘wrong’, not wrong. Many people voted leave due to too many brown faces behind supermarket tills. Not good at geography, I fear. Anyway, brown people immigration soared. And Europeans largely now avoid basketcase UK.

As you probably know, whilst the free movement meant free movement for example for tourism, there would still have been the possibility to have restriction on stays longer than 3 months as in Belgium. Not to mention the fact that net migration went up, and of the ‘wrong’ kind of people.

However there were no boats when there was freedom of movement…and it is not Polish or French people coming over in the boats.

I find it interesting that making racists remarks as a teenager prevents you from being editor in chief of Teen Vogue but not to potential prime minister…what does this tell us?

They are paid, but I do not know how much.

And the internships are for undergraduate students, so it does not matter if you were privately educated or not, your university will advertise them, so you will know. So there may well be a problem of access, but it is not lack of information.

It is an interesting concept, but the idea presented in the programme that having a front door directly on the street and a small courtyard is an exclusive experience of working class people is so funny! There are hundreds of townhouses like this in Chelsea, Belgravia, Mayfair…and mansion flats?

I fully understand the reluctance to trust Hamas. It is troubling.

Sorry not sure the link works, it is a link to the highly respected journal Nature, June 27, 2025, indicating the first independent estimate of the death toll in Gaza at almost 84.000 (until Jan. 2025 only).
July 23, 2025 at 11:56 AM
Ok. The number of the reminder may be high, but the point remains. Equally first indications are that as usual Hamas underestimates casualties…https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-02009-8#:~:text=Almost%2084%2C000%20people%20died%20in,first%20independent%20survey%20of%20deaths.

I am not at all sure. They will never outreform Reform, they put off from coming the highly qualified immigrants we desperately need, and they are slowly losing the votes of decent people. Slowly teaching the public the truth the damage may be undone. Employ good psychologists to show you how…

I have had as public sector worker an effective pay cut of well over 20%. Everybody’s work is useful (well, at least the jobs you cited), but I would argue a doctor’s job is more essential, much more stressful and with terrifying responsibilities (not to mention the much longer unpaid training).
July 23, 2025 at 11:44 AM
I agree, my wage has stagnated as well. However you will also be aware that over the same time the so called super -rich have become richer, so not everything stagnated. If doctors want full restoration, it is fine by me. If I am ill, I want to be treated by someone with no financial worry.
July 23, 2025 at 8:14 AM
Reminder number 1234477532 that Hamas is the only source of information in Gaza because Israel refuses entry to journalists, and in the past their estimates of deaths were found to be underestimates and not overestimates. Hero foreign doctors confirm horror, even if they cannot know numbers.
July 23, 2025 at 7:37 AM
The weird thing is that whenever I listened to his show I thought he was too pro-Israel…it took him quite a while to find that enough was enough in Gaza. And the only ones that may be eliciting any-Semitic views in the British public are the members of the Board, with their support of genocide…

I feel for your kids. So sorry. People always think racism is limited to people of colour, but I am very white, blond and blue eyed and have had their problem. It is painful as an adult, much more horrible as a child.
July 23, 2025 at 7:21 AM
I sometimes wish all of us immigrants, brown, white and of every colour, could agree to down tools for a day, or better still stop paying taxes for one year, and this would show these racists, ignorant people…
July 23, 2025 at 7:15 AM
I agree with deprivation and time online, but insisting with immigration is plain stupid, since immigration has had net benefits to this country (that by the way needs it to maintain population steady, with a fertility rate below 2.1). And lots of highly qualified immigrants (of all colours) left

Trouble is, their pay has not been restored yet to previous levels..

Be very careful, for a variety of reasons, including the fact that AI is not as smart as you think. For professional reasons, I have tested it on a few scientific articles in areas of research I understand, and it can get things very plausibly wrong. It is also very environmentally unfriendly.

And in England I have heard people say they do not want to be a burden on the NHS and subtract resources from younger people. Note this could also subconsciously influence doctors who should give impartial advice…
June 21, 2025 at 2:23 PM
This is the whole point, they may still want to do it, not to be a burden and not to use up their savings (to pass them to their kids). Evidence from Oregon, where you need to indicate your motivation, suggests ‘being a burden’ is often quoted.
June 21, 2025 at 2:21 PM
And talking about the UK, the last few months in a care home can use up all your money, so you may end up choosing to be killed for your children. It happens a lot at least in Oregon (with similar restrictions), why not here? Not to mention the imprecision of a 6 month prognosis.
