DOGE is likely planning to fire employees and close off access to the building. After their antics at IMLS were leaked to social media, DOGE is trying to avoid negative media attention and has backtracked slightly.
IMLS is the federal agency that distributes federal funds approved by Congress to libraries, museums, and archive programs. Today IMLS employees reported DOGE staff arrived at their headquarters. Cuts to the agency could force closures of rural libraries, interlibrary loans, and other programs.
