Yes the statement says “unanimous consent of the College” which in my mind is canonical but it does feel a bit R Nixon/Gerry Ford… appointing my successor just as I’m on the way out the door.

I dunno. One says the archbishop appoints the dean - but Sutton isn’t the archbishop.

I’m confused - according to that list the next active senior most diocesan bishop is Alberto Morales, not Dobbs. Why wouldn’t Morales be Dean?

Way back, years ago, when the ordinariates were being set up, one young fellow made the case that the *only* acceptable form of ceremonial for the Anglo-Caths was French Baroque, since that’s what their Victorian forefathers had bequeathed to them.

No I think that’s right - as a practical matter I think Dobbs would be the first at bat, and that just underlines the problem. Maybe Chip Edgar?

That would leave us with Dobbs, who has allegations of his own and a high tolerance for absuive behavior from canons for preaching.. Which isn’t to say Wood and Sutton don’t need to go, but it’s indicative of the larger leadership problem that a further cleaning house would be warranted.

I think it was William Shirer (possibly Telford Taylor, too) who pointed out that the Nazis weren’t really a govt or ideological movement but an organized crime syndicate that also had a government and ideology.
