DataVis journalist @ The National (Abu Dhabi, UAE)

I dedicate —some of— my working hours to painting charts and maps.

I created this account because the datavis community moved here, and I miss them.

The National’s Data team cross-referenced public databases of the recorded deaths of the journalists covering the war. And last week, our latest visual project was published. In there, we show the circumstances and patterns of killings.

Almost two years ago, the war in Gaza started, and at least 200 journalists have been killed.

Who were they? Under what circumstances did they die? Were they deliberately targeted by Israel in an attempt to suppress the truth about what is going on in Gaza?

Climate change affects all of us, some more than others.

Here’s a sample of the maps and charts I made for “How the climate crisis is creating millions of refugees in the Middle East” by Rachel Kelly.

Also, here are the draft charts I usually do in R before formatting the data for Flourish.

The National published a special project about the changes in the United Arab Emirates’ population. Juman (the editor) invited me to make the charts.

Here’s the project and some of the charts:

Hi, I'm Isaac Arroyo, a data(vis) journalist at The National (Abu Dhabi).

I created this profile because I feel that the #dataviz community has slowly moved here, and I miss them.

Here are some charts and maps I’ve made as part of my job or just for fun. Hoping to see new and familiar usernames.
