Just three months left to submit to TEMPLE.
[TEMPLE] I've been thinking about a pair of Isaac James Richards poems ("Sin" and "Daily Initiations") that engage with the temple in interesting and new ways. And realizing I'd like to see more of that. Thus: a temple-themed issue. Poetry, essay, fiction, video, music, comics—whatever medium you like. Tell us about the temple. Explore its grounds and hallways. Explore the souls of those who worship there—or perhaps are left outside. Note that Irreantum respects sensitivities people have about the temples and our editorial decisions will be influenced by this. However, we would rather you submit work both honest and true. We can negotiate boundaries later. Deadline: January 31, 2026.

You guys. I don't know if I can tell you how delightful this story is. A story that begins with bodies washed away by floods and takes a decidedly magical turn without ever seeming less realistic. If only there were a term for such writing!

The Year the Graveyard Flooded Emily Feuz Jensen The year the graveyard flooded, strange things began to happen in the town of Smallwood. The town, as the name implies, was a small, little community. Think less of a town, and more a collection of roads and houses outside the nearby city of Tremonton, which, incidentally, was less of a city and more of a small town. Both were settled in the northern mountains of Utah and thrived mostly on three large factories and one rocket manufactory. Ed Rosing had worked in all three factories throughout his life (though never the rocket plant), but by the flood year he had long since retired. He lived alone in a rundown home with white siding and chipped blue shutters. His wife lived next door in the Smallwood Cemetery. Ed had been caretaker of the graveyard as long as anyone could remember. It seemed to many of the younger generation that Ed had been alive as long as anyone could remember. 7 Devils Declan Hyde Ashlynn wiped down the counters post-surgery. Only minutes ago, a dog had nearly died here on the operating table as the vet attempted to remove a cancerous tumor. But things had come out okay in the end, and the dog was able to be stabilized. That left Ashlynn with the grimy task of cleaning up the blood and other substances now smeared all over the room and surgical instruments. “The doc said the dog’s heart stopped beating for a few minutes,” Ashlynn remarked to Briton, the other veterinary assistant who was helping her with clean up. “She died and came back. Crazy.” Briton grunted as he hefted the trash bag up and tied it off. “Crazy how that can happen. You know Hadley died and came back.”

Bronze glasses perched at the edge of his blocky nose as he recorded Enora’s report. The chief scribe’s natural height meant that she needed to look up at him, his face a mountain peak made even more distant by the lectern.
