Wolves are carnivores and primarily consume meat - elk, deer, moose, smaller mammals, etc. Food in the wild can be scarce so wolves follow a "feast or famine" diet - meaning they don't know when their next meal will be so when they do eat, they eat a large amount of meat.

Spent the past 3-ish months getting really into the Legacy of Kain series and it's the only thing that's been able to break my art block
