i suspect that just like many star wars authors, salvatore just doesn't understand scale, further worsened by the fact he isn't familiar with star wars conventions. it reminds me of the hyperspace sequence in triple zero

helska 4 is (presumably) "millions of kilometers away", if this isn't a figure of speech. a million kilometers is .007 AU, so they're already basically on top of it. i'm gonna call this a figure of speech probably. especially since this trip takes more than the seconds it would take at FTL.

the "asteroid" is "faster than any natural object they had ever witnessed" - does that mean there aren't hyperspace asteroids? or there are, but they're slower?

- the worldship is coming in sublight
- there are hyperspace asteroids
- the vong are using a form of non-hyperspace FTL (possibly similar to early explorations, or the anoat to bespin trip)
