I really do fear for the future. As much as i support AI when it comes to medicine , i do think some catastrophic errors are inevitable , another recommended watch is CH4's Trump v the Truth.

I watched it on Sat over lunch , as far as i know Dan Snow is atheist . He dealt with the religious aspect ( which was the primary factor in those days against Paganism) in a balanced way. I learnt a lot too , once the Romans de-mobbed the yoghurt hit the fan big time from the barbarians up North...

Been a while since i read it too...yes it was an oversized kite type of 'contraption'.
It was just the image of innocence as in a young oblivious child carrying a small bunch of wild flowers in her hand as she was carried higher and higher and eventually releasing the wild flowers...then death.

The part where the young girl was swept up in the contraption still carrying the handful of flowers ....to her eventual death has stuck with me always....that particular part stood out more than the rest as deeply sad.
