The fire at Sides came exactly a week after the destruction of the Hirschfeld Centre. At the time, many felt that both fires were more than a coincidence and there was even talk of a suspected hate campaign against Dublin’s Rainbow Society. #OTD #socialhistory

The fire caused extensive damage to the premises, melting a large collection of vinyl 12” records and obliterating what had been one of Ireland’s most beautiful and well-appointed nighttime venues. (The D.C. in Side’s name stood for ‘dance club’.)
