When you give the village idiot in each village a place to gather (Facebook) they can take on the appearance of a movement. I hope the reality is that at the end of the day it doesn’t scale up on a level that would give them any power. The turnout for CC is a good indication 🤞🤞

Correct. MM is trying to deflect away from the fact that he made a horses ass of the whole thing. If FF had a credible candidate there would have been a much higher turnout, fewer spoiled votes and very few would be talking about it.

If FF had a credible candidate (or any candidate at all 🫣) would the spoiled vote count would have been lower straight off? People would have had a third choice and been less pissed off generally in the process? And with a higher turnout the spoiled vote would have represented a lower %

Correct. Like the approach Steve Bannon took with Trump in 2016 with his “there are No enemies to our right” policy.
That has now permeated the entire Republican Party resulting in what would have been the “far right” now sitting comfortably alongside them.

It is hard not to envisage a day where one of these untrained, heavily armed amateurs panics and starts shooting. Is it a case that they aren’t going into neighbourhoods where there is a chance people will shoot back or shoot first? That would track with the cowardly tactics so far.

There was over 2,000 at one stage. The usual mix of those who organised, those who thought it was a genuine protest and those who were just out to cause trouble. In a city of 1m + plus it was a small number. And some travelled there from outside also. Still a depressing outcome….

The rioters are a vey small minority but when you look at what has happened in the USA you can see that manipulating the algorithm, intimidating good people out of politics and fostering a culture of apathy from citizens towards politics can deliver power to the right and possibly extreme right.
