Brussels is our office today as Irish environmental NGOs meet Commission officials and MEPs to discuss environmental-related EU issues for Ireland, including nature conservation, marine protection, environmental compliance, the circular economy and sustainable agriculture

World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated annually on July 28th. It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources and ecosystems.

This week is #SharkWeek! 🦈

37.5% of sharks and rays are threatened with extinction according to the IUCN Red List of threatened species.

The Coalition to Halt the Extinction of Sharks and Rays has been established to stop extinction of sharks.

Winner of the Ocean category was Daniel Fildes for Harbour Anemones. The judge said:This photo shows the magical world that lies just below any pier, jetty or harbour in Ireland. This photograph shows the density at which Plumose Anemones can be seen which can often be seen even from above the water

Huge congratulations to Lorraine Kelly winner of the Biodiversity Photographer of the Year Competition for Four Spotted Chaser. The judges said it was: "An arresting image, the structure of the four spotted chaser is beautifully captured with excellent composition, crisp & clear."

Today is World Environment Day which this year focuses on the growing scientific evidence of the impacts of plastic pollution and the need to drive momentum to refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink plastics use to build a cleaner and more sustainable future.
