Here's the upper level energy making its way toward WNC this afternoon. I think it should allow for some northwest flow snow to sneak into the valleys.

Gonna be a nice sunset this evening as the cold sweeps in. #Asheville

I like watching the forecast dew point animation as a significant cold front sweeps through the area.

This dramatic trough approaching the southern and southeast United States reminds me of Christmas Eve 2020. Here's a comparison of the 500 mb height anomaly. Won't be working with similar available moisture but upper dynamics are on par with each other. Left: (today, Monday) Right: Xmas eve '20.

This is certainly quite robust vorticity spinning in Monday afternoon and evening. (12z ECMWF) Crazy upward vertical motion.

The video footage of the destroyed
JPS Hydroelectric Power Plant in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica seems genuine. It was published by Jamaica Observer on Instagram. The roof from the interior video footage corresponds with this photo of the building.

I'm guessing this topo yielded the upslope

From Jamaica Observer on X. "Principal director of the Meteorological Service of #Jamaica, Evan Thompson, is warning that Hurricane #Melissa could impact the island more severely than anything experienced in decades. "

Every once in a while I think it's ok to say, let's put away the cone of uncertainty for this storm. 😬 #jamaica #melissa

37% humidity currently and breezy

Already saw a small brush fire ignite on I-40 near Sweeten Creek Rd exit. Fire fighters were on the scene. #Asheville #firedanger

I asked Google Gemini to estimate how many people attended Asheville's No Kings protest yesterday. I honestly think this is a good estimate. I was going to guess 7K to 10k. This photo is a pretty good representation of the numbers.
