Palm trees bent in a high breeze, and the eyes of sea dragons glimmered in the canal as they made their nightly trek from the ocean. A few of the ribbon-like dragons clung to the bridge and hissed at the moon, and Benedict stopped to shoo them into the water with a boot. “Vermin,” he said, but there was a hint of tenderness in his voice. “They think the moon’s a huge dragon, so they keep trying to fight it.”
