First marigold blooms of the season.

Update - Yukon Gold potatoes. According to the information that came with the seed potatoes, they should be ready to harvest the first week in May. I don’t see any signs of them slowing down, though. No yellow leaves or flowers. Oh well. There’s nothing to do but wait.

Collards have graduated to the big garden right ahead of the rain. I experimented with placing the smaller Alabama Blue between the Green Glaze. I might end up moving it, though. I think those Green Glaze collards will jump.

This week’s short story “Legacy” is a 3,907 word historical fantasy about grandmothers and granddaughters and what it means to feel safe in an insecure world.

TW - This story takes place during the Atlanta Child Murders in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Garden update. This is what survived the snow. Brussels sprouts stalk. Collards seedlings that I was supposed to plant today but wanted a head start on, and experimental garlic.

Collards plant. The best looking plant in the winter garden. It survived the snow. Hopefully it’ll survive the next cold spell. Atlanta isn’t supposed to have a winter, y’all.

I haven’t gotten that far 🤣.

What customizations have you made? I’m looking for tips and suggestions.

Results of my winter garden experiment - 2 baby heads of broccoli and half a bowl of baby Brussels sprouts.

I’m glad I did it, but I won’t be growing these again. They take up a lot of space for the harvest.

For the spring garden it will be collards only.

I took this picture walking to the Metro after getting off work when I lived in the DMV. I’d wanted to live in Washington, DC since the school safety patrol trip in 7th grade. Some days I couldn’t believe I’d made it. Hence, the picture.

Today’s episode of Brussels sprouts watch. I’m probably gonna harvest those leaves for New Year’s to supplement my collards.

Milk jug greenhouse experiment is a go! Big Daddy Greasy and Green Glaze McCormack’s collards varieties from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange.

Will they live?

Will they die?

It’s a mystery…

Caught the Christmas musical “She Loves Me” at OnStage Atlanta yesterday. It was the perfect amount of Christmas fluff.

Oh. And there was a dog in the show 😍.

Updated winter garden pictures. The Brussels sprouts are the star of the show! The broccoli 🥦 plants…well let’s just say they’re not as robust.

Garden update: Brussels sprouts are starting to form despite my mom using most of the leaves for greens 3 weeks ago 🤣.

Started from seed 9/1. Jade Cross from Hoss Tools in South Georgia. 2022 seeds.
