Trump wearing a maxi pad on his ear and pumping his fist is performative nonsense. Jeffries gave people time to call their representatives today and he made sure Republicans voted on this bill in daylight instead of the dark of night, when no one is watching.

Exactly. He talked about it at length today. And I guess everyone conveniently forgot that a number of Democratic lawmakers were detained and/or arrested at immigration detention centers and immigration courthouses.

Rep. Jeffries can speak for as long as he wants as Minority Leader. However, if and when he yields, Speaker Mike Johnson will then speak (he said he will make his speech very short) and then all members of the House go straight to voting. Trump is demanding a July 4th deadline.

One clarifying point: The U.S. House of Representatives does not have filibusters. A filibuster is a Senate tactic. Jeffries is using his role as Minority Leader to stretch his allotted 60 seconds of speaking time for far longer, in a House tradition known as a “magic minute.”
