I'm a nerd for roller coasters, theme parks, computer hardware, 3D-printing, design and web development.

This random box from IKEA that happens to fit behind the printer perfectly when it's right against the edge of my workbench.

If communities just had a "TOXIC MODE" switch that someone could turn off, that would be awesome. But I don't think the community is actually that cohesive. Some of these people have nothing better to do than fighting other Linux users for using the "wrong" distro.

The main advantage of Linux is the fact that it doesn't suck ass. Windows is still more user friendly though (though Microsoft keeps working hard on making it more and more difficult to use).

I'm also a web developer, and most of that stuff just works better on Linux. Pretty much all servers run on Linux for a reason. I still feel like Linux requires too much time and effort to get into. That starts at having to figure out what distro to use.

Technically, that's a criticism about the community, not the OS. As always, it's a loud minority, trying to tell people how to use their computer. I'm still on win, but I'm considering getting a linux partition in addition to that, because Microsoft tries their best to make Windows worse and worse.

It would be difficult to pick a favorite, but my top 3 in no particular order would be PolyLite Pro Metallic Silver, PolyTerra/Panchroma Matte Charcoal Black and PolyLite Starlight Neptune

"Same rumours as last year?"
"Same rumours as every year, James."

If we go by the rumours, TotNH/Crazy Bats has probably been demolished about 10 times so far, and Geister Rikscha probably just as often 😁 But as I said in some other comment, not knowing what happens next keeps it exciting 😂

But it's only really useful when it's a brand that's trustworthy. When a manufacturer I don't know puts something like this on their website, I don't really trust it.

And one more thing: The maximum tolerance is one thing, but it doesn't tell you about consistency. A filament that has a tolerance of 0.03, but with only very gradual deviations in a few spots might print better than one with 0.02 but a very inconsistent diameter that's all over the place.
November 14, 2024 at 1:00 AM
Also, when a manufacturer puts a tolerance on their website, I don't just take it at face value. I don't even know how accurate their measurement tools are, and if their QC would catch spools that exceed these tolerances.

To be honest, I don't care about this too much as long as it prints cleanly. I feel like it's mostly a marketing number, and most brand name filaments have pretty consistent tolerances anyway.

Grid support or organic/tree support? Soluble or break-away? (You started with the 3D printing jokes!)

And they missed it again with 3MF. How many dimensions does this file have? 3, MF!

October 20, 2023 at 1:47 PM
October 20, 2023 at 1:34 PM
