There's a lot that Democrats from across the ideological spectrum in our caucus can learn from what he [Zohran Mamdani] did. There also is plenty Mr. Mamdani could gain from his new friends in Washington. When you're running that kind of a high-profile race, let's be clear, you want to have validators and endorsers. Now that he has won, he is the main target and he knows he's going to have to have his own war chest to be able to rebut all that crap about socialism and communism.

I come from a place that has been plagued by this kind of logic, a place where judges, lawyers, activists … have been killed for their stance on the side of justice. So I know what people risk when they stand against big powers. But what I also know are lessons that come from my part of the world - that these techniques work only if they manage to silence the people … The sanctions will only work if people are scared and stop engaging. Together we can stop this disgrace but we need to awaken and stand united against it.

Access to safe water is a fundamental human right. Not only is food and aid being withheld to an entire population on the brink - fuel that powers the systems that are critical for survival has not been allowed in for four months.

The summit could have played a role in showing an alternative to an unstable world, but won't do so. The withdrawal of Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the uncertainty about the level of representation for countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are confirming the difficulty for the BRICS to establish themselves as a cohesive pole of global leadership. This moment demands high level articulation, but we are actually seeing dispersion.

People were willing to forgive the occasional miscalculation but that the climbdowns over winter fuel payments and the welfare bill had left Starmer's operation looking like a mess. What I think has exacerbated this feeling by many, not just politicians but people around the country, who look at this and think it's a mess. Well, it's a mess of our own making. We could have avoided some of this by just listening to some of the people in the party who want to support Starmer, want to support Labour, but are finding it difficult because the mistakes are made and they could have been avoided. I don't think it's necessarily about Keir or Keir's team necessarily - although there are definitely some siren voices around all of that - but I do think it's about the feeling that there's a lack of connectivity between different bits of the party.

I have no hopes at all [in this deal]. There isn't much difference between this deal and the dozens of other deals that have been made in the past. This deal does two things really: It denies Congolese people - Congolese victims and survivors - justice; and simultaneously it also fuels impunity. Peace begins with justice. You cannot have peace or stability without justice.

What is unfolding in Gaza is not a humanitarian operation-it is a calculated strategy of control, displacement, and destruction, masquerading as aid. The Israeli government's so-called distribution scheme, including the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, is systematically dismantling the impartial humanitarian response. Instead of feeding people, it is driving them into militarised zones where they are shot while trying to access food. This is a gross violation of international law. We demand an immediate end to this deadly charade, the full restoration of UN-led coordination in Gaza, and the lifting of the siege that is starving and killing civilians. Humanitarian aid must never be weaponised, and we will not be complicit in a system that facilitates forced displacement and mass death under the banner of relief.

There is no longer any benefit for the State of Israel from continuing the war in Gaza. Only damage on the security, political and economic level. Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir appeared before the cabinet yesterday and said that the political echelon needs to decide on the next objective. The meaning of this sentence is, the army has no more objectives in Gaza.

China supports Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, and, on that basis, achieving a genuine ceasefire so that people can return to normal life. Military strikes on nuclear facilities that are under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency seriously violate the purposes of the UN Charter and international law.

That lack of international action to stop the war has left Mr. Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel free to proceed as they choose. We're entering a new international era, a new world order, and it seems to in some ways be an old world order of force and the law of the jungle, but with 21st-century technology and weaponry.

Now that Israel has succeeded in striking most of its nuclear targets in Iran, Israel has a window of two or three days to declare the victory and end the war. When planning how to defend Israel in future wars, no one envisaged a scenario in which we would be fighting on so many fronts and defending against so many rounds of ballistic missiles.

This is the second time our offices in Gaza have been targeted and destroyed, despite being clearly identified, registered with Israeli authorities, and officially deconflicted. It is unacceptable that humanitarian spaces are repeatedly struck with impunity by Israeli forces. We call on third states to move beyond condemnation and take concrete measures to uphold international humanitarian law and protect humanitarian workers and civilians in Gaza.

The Madleen was an effort to get food and medicine to the starving people of Gaza; an unarmed civilian effort in the midst of devastation and catastrophic humanitarian conditions. It's a powerful symbol of immediate action required to end Israel's months-long blockade on all humanitarian aid. What the flotilla has highlighted is the urgent need for humanitarian aid to get into Gaza. The ship's seizure is yet another attempt by Israeli authorities to prevent aid from entering the devastated territory.

Considerations Surrounding Trump’s Call for National Guard Deployment During LA Immigration Protests
Normally, if federal troops are going to be used inside of states, it's going to be at the invitation of the governor of that state. For example, in 1992, the California governor invited federal troops in to put down the LA riots. But if the governor, such as Gavin Newsom, has not asked for federal troops to come in, and these troops are coming in against his will, then there will be challenges. Soldiers are not cops, and that's why you do not use them as a law enforcement, law for law enforcement. This has grave danger for the people of that area. We are a republic. We are made up of a union of 50 states, and the president does not have direct authority over every state. We're now seeing President Trump going to New York, saying he wants to end to congestion fees and using federal powers there. He's going into Harvard [University] to say he wants to change curriculums there. He's suing law firms to change their values. He's going up to corporations. He's now saying he's sending direct federal troops into Los Angeles to put down speech. At what point in time do people realise exactly what's going on a macro level within this administration? And when are those small government conservatives going to come back and say, maybe this is too much power in the hands of one man?

The Israeli Authorities have banned the entry of international journalists to Gaza since the war began, 20 months ago. This is unprecedented in any other conflict in modern history. It is a ban on the truth. It is a ban on reporting the facts. It is the perfect recipe to fuel mis-information, deepening polarization & dehumanization. International journalists must independently report from Gaza & support their Palestinian colleagues who continue to do a heroic job at a heavy price. Nearly 200 of them were reported killed since the war began. The ban on international media must be lifted.

Applying the legal definitions of genocide as found in the Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, I would determine that what is happening in Gaza constitutes genocide. The definition involves acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. These include killing or imposing conditions meant to bring about physical destruction. What we are witnessing fits within that legal definition. Genocide either has occurred or hasn't - labels don't change the facts. Genocide is not only determined by a court ruling. Other actors can make informed assessments, such as scholars, legal experts, politicians and civil society. Scholars like myself apply legal definitions to the facts. Politicians play a crucial role in recognition, which historically has been important for mobilising international action.

Traditional aid distribution systems are done by humanitarian organisations that are unattached to military units, but that's not the case with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Aid distribution in Gaza is the most dangerous in the world that has been set up by Israel and the GHF. It is obviously linked to Israeli security aims. There's nothing independent about this, there's nothing neutral. Clearly, this is linked to what Israel wants to achieve on the ground. Impartiality is out of the window. All humanitarian principles have been thrown against the wall.

The administration had yet to articulate the national security danger it is trying to avoid, but it had already succeeded in scaring talented people away from the United States. This is a self-defeating and self-destructive strategy, if you can call it a strategy. These students fill our labs and they perform all the research. They're some of the smartest, most talented scientists in America and I have no idea how these labs are going to operate without them.

China could redirect its students to Hong Kong, the U.K. or Singapore while promoting its own universities as global hubs. Long term, Beijing may bolster domestic higher education and recruit U.S.-based talent to reduce reliance on American institutions.
