I remember seeing a post on tumblr a while ago that laid out pretty well that tumblr is basically a backwater, and the prevailing wisdom on there has been set by a small clique of people, and almost everyone else is too weak-willed to question or argue against any of it.

I saw someone saying that they won't tolerate anyone criticizing her because "her music changed my life." Somehow this person thinks that mindset is entirely different from the mindset that lets predators operate with impunity in the music industry but it's the same shit.

The pattern I've noticed is that who actually gets cancelled and who comes out the other side unscathed has nothing to do with whether they actually did anything and how bad it was, but rather, does this person have influential friends? Do people find this person annoying?

What gets me is like, it's so obviously about clout, right? She has fans and friends willing to stick up for her, so she's allowed to carry on like nothing she did was real. The girl who she sexually harassed has none of those things, so she doesn't exist to these people.
