This album got a lot of play from me when I was severely depressed during my senior year of high school. I included the title track on a psychology project and it made my teacher cry. Great album.

Yeah I also got into them bc the girl I liked in high school was partially into them bc of her dad and I wanted to impress her lol.

That's true. I jumped into Dream Theater around the time of their self-titled but was way more into their early stuff even then. And tbf I really have only just now come back to listening to them so there are some internal biases I've gotta get over.

I have a somewhat complicated history with Dream Theater and this album is kinda what spawned it but over the years I've grown to appreciate it more. Definitely some of their best work in their later era.

My problem with this song (and a lot of this album) is that there is a solid 4-8 minutes of great musical ideas, but it's surrounded by stuff that absolutely doesn't grab me at all. But, I fucking love the intro to this song.

I like to think it's bc prog is such a wide and unique genre that you can have prog heads who don't listen to anything alike yet still enjoy their little corners of the genre. Or maybe I just suck at enjoying Good™ music.

I love that despite us both having the prog music autism I feel like besides a few bands there is so little overlap in the prog we like lol.

I really don't understand why Ayreon doesn't click for me. I like musicals, I love concept albums, and I love metal. Plus it has a bunch of vocalists I like. And yet I cannot for the life of me stick through a whole album. Am I just stupid?
