Since 2015, dozens of communities across the American South have removed, relocated & modified Confederate monuments. Often, symbolic and material imprints remain — and sometimes, the statues are simply reinstalled...

Public scholar David Cunningham wrote on this very subject for Places last month.

Did you know that I am such a supernerd that I’ve always written my website by hand? (Which means somebody has to be able to read the matrix to update it 😂😢. So there are only six out of dozens of projects up there.)

The process behind "painting" the (often) ecologically educational art on chocolate, from local New England chocolatier (NH) Clandestine Chocolates, which uses fair trade everything, makes it locally by hand, and sometimes collaborates with cartoonist Liza Donnelly.

“I can't necessarily say that about any other piece of art in the City of Boston... where it's ours... Right? Like, the Big Head is ours.”

“Finnish architect and theorist #JuhaniPallasmaa has written eloquently that nurturing capacity for empathy in the designer should be part of every architect’s professional education.”

I was thinking about this eatlier for all students, especially with increasing bullying, hate, & SELFISHNESS.
The Importance of Cultivating Empathy in Design Education
Grounding studio assignments in historical and current cultural issues is the best way to foster empathy in students.

I am one of these #synesthete people and it's definitely helped me learn foreign languages because I see patterns of color in the patterns of letters, and being a very visual person, can read the patterns quickly. It has also helped with math, because numbers also have colors.

The people who 'see' foreign languages: How synaesthesia can help language learning
Synaesthesia is a neurological condition found to enhance memory and learning. Now, scientists say seeing in colour could help when it comes to learning a second language.

Comb Sisters – unwed women – flourished during the heyday of China's industrial silk production (up until 1930s when it collapsed), because they could earn their living indepedently... without becoming servants or forcibly marry, as they had to after.

Comb Sisters
Unwed women in China's Canton Delta found autonomy and sisterhood in gupouks, communal homes that emerged in tandem with the industrialization of silk-making.

Interview with one of the founders of #Anonymous on its history. It started in... Boston, of course!

(I was searching to see if they released any statements based on our current political situation. Found only something that seems fake.)

I deleted the Google maps app when I heard that they're going through re-label the Gulf of Mexico and have been using maps in comment instead.

Honestly, I'm not sure this is the best platform for image-based work or people, but willing to give it a try since Big Tech 👎.

Anyway, I got snowshoes for the first time in my life recently because I live next to a landscape packed with snow. My lunchtime walk:

I've updated my website recently (ioanacolor.com) to reflect on my interests & goals, which unite my art + graphic work with my architecture + planning experience.

...though putting up all my sample projects might take a year 😂.
