I mean, even if they added language for enforcement…the only thing they’d be enforcing is a vote they could lose to a simple 51-vote GOP majority. Dragging out the shutdown in the face of John Thune’s refusal to invoke the nuclear option was their only leverage. And it’s gone now.

Either way, it’s time for Chuck to pass the torch to a new generation of leadership in the Senate.

But wouldn’t turning into a surveillance state to beat a surveillance state be…counterproductive? Like, what are we even really winning at that point?

Because part of the Paramount-CBS/Viacom merger and related Trump settlement was that CBS News would take on an unpleasantly conservative spin. 🤷‍♂️

Giving someone a second chance after they battled addiction or did their time for bad choices that were an extension of a rough childhood or crushing poverty is one thing.

But 10 counts of child molestation isn’t something you just leave in the past.

I never thought I’d see the day when People magazine had harder hitting journalism than most of the major “serious” news outlets. Yet here we are.

Welcome to the resistance, People.

Because the government shutdown is very much intentional political theater on the part of the GOP, pure and simple.

NGL, between the disappointing absence of platform exclusives this console generation and MS jacking up the price of GamePass, I was already on the fence about trading my Series X in for a Switch 2. MS effectively giving ICE a free pass to use their IP is that last nudge I needed to make the move.

When you’re backed into a corner, you can’t be too picky about the help you get. Welcome to the resistance, Joe.

I, too, am old. But I’m also about chill, low-stakes holidays now. Halloween is fun because it’s whatever you make it.

Want to throw an elaborate costume party for 100 guests? Go you. Wanna watch cheesy old monster movies in your PJs and overeat candy? That’s cool, too. There are no rules.

Republicans don’t actually care about crime in and of itself. They elected a convicted felon with a history of fraud, accounting shenanigans and rape allegations.

For them, “crime” is just a thinly veiled dog whistle to mean “big, scary POC and poor people who surely must be up to no good.”
October 29, 2025 at 12:23 AM
Came here to say the same thing. The GOP treats crime as some distressing phantom boogeyman to motivate their base, who are afraid of their own goddamn shadows. But the overall crime rate has been declining nationwide since the mid 1990s. It’s not a problem worth building your campaign around.

Bringing back the slave patrols. Evidently, this is what they meant by “making America great again.”

On the bright side, Halloween is on Friday. That’s something to look forward to.

Unfortunately, the news for the past 9 months has been consistently more terrifying than anything Halloween has ever thrown at me. And the daily horrors appear to be accelerating. So…that sucks.

Even if we bought the “maybe he got cut by flying glass from the broken teleprompter” theory, there should still be a scar from the cut. He’s a 78 y/o who lives on a steady diet of fast food and malice, not goddamn Wolverine.

He wasn’t shot. He didn’t actually win. And he’s on the list.

Wait…if people are getting paid for this, someone owes me some serious back pay. Does Antifa have an accounts payable department? Do I just mail the bill straight to George Soros? How does this even work?

I have never owned a hat that warranted its own box.

I do, however, have two cats who really like boxes (though, in more of a cozy pillow fort way and not as a turtle shell).
