i'm kind of upselling the romance but the main plot of the book is actually more focused on the political movements in the kingdom, people trying to unseat the current king and using a group of people as their scapegoats, capitalizing on and encouraging discrimination and mistrust, things like that.

the first book, Mystic and Rider, focuses on setting the scene of disquiet in the kingdom, and also is a slow romance between two very strong pragmatic characters: a woman who uses magic (very distrusted) and a man who's a knight. the balance between them, the give and take, is so good.

the short pitch is basic fantasy adventure--the overall plot is not doing anything especially innovative, i think. you have a ragtag group of uniquely skilled individuals who save a kingdom. the best strengths of it are in the prose, the character dynamics, and the romance, bc it has that too.
