'Into the West' - Rail Campaign
@intothewestrail.bsky.social
The rail campaign for the North-West of the island of Ireland - covering counties Derry, Tyrone, Donegal & Fermanagh. Formed 2004.
Your daily reminder that #Derry & West of the Bann have suffered blatant discrimination when it comes to rail timetabling for the last 7yrs (see below), & Minister Liz Kimmins is refusing to allocate the relatively paltry £1m needed to finally bring this injustice to an end🤷‍♂️ @deptinfra.bsky.social

With 10's of thousands of people frm #Donegal descending upon Dublin today for #AllIrelandFootballFinal, it's important to acknowledge the complete absence of suitable public transport from the county to get them there. It's high time that Donegal got its railway back again 🟢🟡👍 #LetterkennyDerryRail

Today marks 75th anniversary of #Limavady losing its railway. A century of connectivity erased in an instance. Limavady would be the easiest, quickest & cheapest rail reopening on the island - & we're campaigning to see it happen👍 Hear us speak at #Stendhal this Sunday ('Stage the Change' @ 3:45pm)

** MEETING WITH DONEGAL TDs - Tues 11th March 2025 **
We'd an extremely helpful meeting yesterday with #Donegal TDs @pearsedoherty.bsky.social & @padraigmacl.bsky.social about bringing rail back to Letterkenny & Donegal. We're very grateful for their time & engagement with us on this important issue

Have you seen our banners near the bus station in #Letterkenny? 🙂 If you'd like to help us install more around #Donegal, please consider donating here = intothewest.org/donate.
Each banner costs £50, but any donation will be used to help push the message that Donegal Needs Rail !

Your map also portrays NI's second city as if it's an unimportant spur off of Coleraine, which is a quarter of its size. Merely on a par with Portrush & it'spopulation of 6,000. You'll find that this sort of stuff does not go down at all well in the North-West.

Sorry - don't buy that at all. As the below map shows, it is possible to portray the network in a geographically accurate way. If they can do it with the vast & intricate rail map of Britain, evn with London's spaghetti soup of lines, thn it can be done for NI's basic system & it's handful of lines👍🏻

Sorry - but any graphic which completely ignores geographical reality to instead place Belfast at the centre of the transport universe isn't one that we can get behind. Below is a more accurate representation 👇🏼 There is life beyond Belfast 😳

PLEASE NOTE : Due to impending Storm Éowyn, @translink.bsky.social have announced that there will be NO TRAINS operating in NI tomorrow (Friday) morning 👇🏼
