Ch 4 of static coming friday!

This way, regardless of who he's addressing, Nancy can answer for either of them, because Robin is having trouble finding her voice just now. “We're gonna have to leave you two here for now while we take these kids to the hospital. We're stretched a bit thin at the moment.” “Sure, no problem, sir,” Nancy answers calmly, flashing her disarming, professional smile. If Robin were having less of a crisis right now, she'd be able to appreciate how impressive it is that Nancy's able to turn it on no matter what's happening. But, alas, Robin is in fact having a crisis and it's all she can do not to take Dustin by the shoulders and shake him in front of the emergency responders. As it stands, as soon as they climb into their ambulance Robin turns to Dustin and begins peppering him with questions at the same time as he fires off his own queries. “How exactly did it happen, Dustin? What did Steve say?” “Did you guys beat Vecna? Is that why the gate closed?” “—Okay, okay, hold on,” Nancy interrupts them before they can get too into it. “First and foremost, we need to check the other gates. We can tell each other what we know on the way there.” The light of the dawning sky throws Nancy's Screenshot of text reads: sharp features into a soft relief, and Robin finds she's suddenly able to pause her brain-to-mouth highway in favor of listening to what Nancy has to say. “You’re right,” Dustin says, picking up his bike. “Let's go.” Nancy shakes her head with a noise of disapproval. “No way. We're not biking all the way to Lovers’ Lake and to Fred’s gate out on Route 52. We need a car.” “So, we’ll go to your house,” Dustin says, shrugging and climbing onto his bike. He's so clearly ready to take action, so cavalier, and it sends a spear of pain through Robin's chest to think who he reminds her of. He's so like him. Steve's probably so proud of that. “No,” Nancy says, drawing out the word and grabbing onto Dustin’s handlebars. It's obvious Nancy's spent a great deal of her life arguing with young, headstrong boys like her brother and his friends. “We can't go to my house because everyone's definitely looking for us there. They'll want to sit us down, and they’ll question us, and then we won't be able to go to any of the gates. We need another option.” “Steve,” Robin says, making them both turn to her. “We can borrow Steve's car. His house is close, and I know where to find the spare key.”

It's wip wednesday and we're checking in with Robin's side of things, right after Max...well, you know
Text reads: “You two should go through here and help them. I need to go check on Dustin. The music stopped a while back…” It’s then that Robin understands how Steve is able to be so focused. Seeing…what’s happened to Max – the word that she is definitely not thinking right now – has Steve worried about Dustin. Her heart gives a sympathetic thump for him. For all of them. She’s starting to wonder how much anguish she’s going to be able to push down before it all comes flooding out. “By yourself?” Nancy asks Steve, ever the level-headed. “I’ll take a bike,” Steve says as he shrugs and slings his backpack over his shoulder, and Robin doesn’t miss the eye roll Nancy uses to respond. It’s the same response Robin wants to give. Which she would, if she could do it without her tears spilling out. Steve is already back over at the top of the attic stairs. “I’ll be fine, Nance. If Vecna's still out there, he's in no shape to put up a fight. And I have to make sure Dustin’s okay. We’ll go through the gate over there and meet up with you guys back here on the other side, okay?” “Be careful, please,” Robin says, knowing it’s not worth it to argue. “Always am,” Steve returns before dropping down the stairs. “Yeah, that’s not true,” Nancy mutters, and it’s not loud enough for Steve to hear. Robin gives a start when she looks at Nancy and sees a rueful look that’s actually aimed in her direction. As though they’re sharing a moment in something that only the two of them could know about Steve. Robin tries to return the knowing look but is sure it comes out more surprised than anything.
