Apparently I should have specified I should have specified I was talking about Black archivists, historians, and scribes to preserve Black historical and cultural pieces and stories outside of institutions as they're at risk of losing homes (physical items) or being lost (stories and history).
Archivists, historians, scribes: your time is now. Yours is among the most urgent work needed.

Seeing a lot of correlating Musk’s ideology to his neurotype. Musk is terrible, & so is this attitude. Countless neurotypical people make awful decisions & those failures are not generalised to suggest their neurotype is universally unfit for decision making.

Ridiculous to seek any further cuts to Archives NZ or the National Library when the institutions are already so underfunded and understaffed that Archives NZ no longer offers a digitisation service
Archives NZ, National Library to cut 27 roles
The Department of Internal Affairs wants to bring the two organisations under the joint leadership of the Chief Archivist and National Librarian.

Somebody whose will is included in the @materialwills.bsky.social project has very specific instructions about where they want to be buried, & I am deeply aggrieved that I don’t know their name so I can check whether they were, in fact, buried about 2ft from the wall facing the steeple or tower.

I, for whom FOMO is not one of my complexes, just finished Possession by A.S. Byatt, and I loved it. For me, it doubles as a fantasy - one where all the primary documents you need are somewhere; you just have to find them. I want to live in that world.

Every researcher’s worst nightmare: the materials most crucial to your understanding existed, but were not preserved in the archival record.

Historians with knowledge of immigration and the Pacific:

do you know where I can consult documentation about a Tongan immigration act active in 1913 regarding people from Niue?

Does anyone know of any good writing on this, because I think about this a lot. Not ‘how to break up with social media’ as such, but the encroachment on solitude & private lives.
Oh absolutely. I think the real privacy issues are social, and they’re being masked by a fear of the machine.

Also it is true we are always expected to be available via text/phone now, we weren’t ten years ago, and that shift has not been talked about enough.
