Last week @lucytaylor12.bsky.social spoke at a mini symposium on minority languages, held at @aberuni.bsky.social. The event discussed minority languages & AI, the Kabyle language spoken in Algeria and 2 minority languages spoken in Patagonia: Welsh and Mapuzungun, the Indigenous Mapuche language.

On Saturday @aberuni.bsky.social held an open day for prospective students and their families and friends. It was a busy day in the department. Our wonderful student ambassadors did their usual great job of making the visitors feel welcome and answering their questions.

2/2 It was @guttmannaviva.bsky.social, whose expertise in intelligence agencies was being sought by the film makers. Their film will be about the Algerian political leader Mohamed Boudiaf and Aviva was asked to share some of her research about what intelligence agencies knew about him.

2/2 Papertrail, in association with Clean Break, and Siân Owen have created a gripping piece of theatre inspired by the real-life stories of women and young people. After the play, Catrin and the students joined the cast, director, and BSL performance interpreters for a post show discussion.

Last Friday, some of the MA students taking Catrin Wyn Edwards' module 'Race, (Im)mobility and Incarceration' attended the play, A Visit, at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre with Catrin. A Visit is a powerful play that explores themes such as the imprisonment of mothers, justice, and childcare. 1/2

The module introduces students to key debates and theories on race and racism in transnational carceral practices, the weaponization of racial capitalism, abolitionist movement, and productions of Black and indigenous criminality. This is a great addition to our lineup of MA modules! 3/3
