The #IntergenerationalForum is launched!
Yesterday, we took a step further - the ageing of society and the questions it raises policies from social protection to care on one side and the conditions for younger people to thrive demands that we stop talking in silos.
The Forum shall reduce these.

For the Polish Council Presidency, Deputy Minister Sobkowiak-Czarnecka pointed out that the 'silver generation' are in fac all of us, as we are all ageing. It is important to take account of the older generations and reach out to them using the communication channels that reach them. #poland25eu

'Longevity is an achievementbut also a responsibility', says @michalszczerba.bsky.social. We need to support life-long learning, secure pensions and healthcare. Ageing is often framed as a burden and that must change.

Ms @idoiamendia.bsky.social launches the meeting by welcoming the intergenerational fairness strategy which is announced. There is a need for many policies to respond to ageing including health, care and affordable, accessible housing. The interest group will provide a forum for exchange with CSOs.

For the Polish Presidency #EU2025PL, Mr Drozdowicz explains the ambition to enable older persons to participate in the labour market and beyond. It is vital to expand our discussions beyond the current debates. Active social participation plays a crucial role in maintaining health and inclusion.

Researcher @adelinacohe.bsky.social looks at the new risks linked to ageing: care and loneliness, and the fear of being a burden to your children. The Observatory of Long-Term Care was founded after COVID and found that the fragmentation of care systems is a widespread problem

Ms Ivankovic of DG EMPL emphasises that we might not invest enough into ageing. Are we training older persons, retired or not? Are we providing sufficient care?

Ms Mendía emphasises that population #ageing is underway and needs the adaptation and coordination of policies. The Care Strategy, the Commission's work on loneliness and the Demography Toolbox are good starts for this.

There are Member States who remove legal capacity of persons with disabilities & Member States with good practices, says Marine Uldry from European Disability Forum. Legal capacity can be taken off people with #dementia or Alzheimer’s, for instance.EDF's human rights report:
