Impact of International Student Caps on Canadian Colleges and Rural Communities- An Opinion
(The following represents my own thoughts and perspectives and are not to be taken out of context. 6 minute read.) I have worked for Selkirk College as an Instructor since 2018. I joined the ranks of Post Secondary workers after having worked almost 10 years in the tremendously impoverished public school system - a school system that I'd seen dwindle in resources for the full span of my childrens' K -12 experiences (2000-2019).

General thoughts on accommodations and UDL
(The following represents my own thoughts). Each year there are a percentage of students in post secondary who go through the process of gaining accommodations for their coursework. This is not specific to any one institution and is expected practice across all colleges and universities in Canada. Students are applying for accommodation in greater numbers (Copfer Terreberry, 2017) and discovering that the process and practice can, in some cases, take more time and have different barriers than if they hadn't applied for them at all (Bartolo, et al., 2023, Dolmage, 2017, and Parsons, et al., 2021).

For those following the story of unidentified men violently dragging a protester from a local Idaho GOP meeting, it turns out they were from a private security firm called LEAR Asset Management. But neither the sheriff (who watched it all go down) or the GOP will take responsibility for hiring them.
UPDATE on town hall chaos: Woman who was dragged out speaks, police chief condemns security, name of security firm confirmed
A legislative town hall organized by the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee devolved into chaos Saturday when unidentified, plainclothes security personnel dragged a Post Falls woman from th...

I’m struggling with the news and how to be a person in the world with all that is happening. Such a barrage of horrible things, all against my most deeply held beliefs.

All I can do is post what I’m reading and re-reading:
Maus (Speigleman)
March (Lewis)
Becoming Unbecoming (Una)

For starters.

Stepping away from the news for the weekend because watching the US and my neighborhood is not great for long-term mental health.

On that note:

Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day.

Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links.

Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo
Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?"

So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?
Looking for a supernatural queer read?

On this app a grand total of 6 days and already have blocked my first romance-scammer/bot. When did this become expected? Normal?
I was having such a lovely time and now - blech. For crying out loud, internet!

Downloaded and deleted. Buh-bye X-Twitter.
I thought it would be like taking my toys and going home, but it's more like having quit so long ago I forget that I ever smoked.

Deeply enjoying the shift from thumbnails to more finished composition in the multi-step process of story development. Love returning to these drawings to where work ‘came’ from.

Community-led collaboration sessions in our region - another modified PATH! Talking with families and service providers about where the gaps are for folks with disabilities. This is part of a MUCH larger project across the province. We are playing a small, regional part. Grateful to do this work!
