I do not get this argument because it is the polar opposite of how we orally communicate dates. "Ninth February" was spoken by no one ever.*

* - "The Ninth of February" is an acceptable variant but most use "February Ninth"

But also...

As always, when closing out @crankyflier.com @nycaviation.bsky.social #Dorkfest #SpotLAX2025, a Star Alliance lounge stop ends the day. That bar has done more to destroy my liver than any other...

When at LAX T7, stopping by Klatch Coffee is mandatory.

Hanging out at the (poor compared to NRT's and GUM's) SFO United Club waiting for my LAX flight and suitably dressed for the occasion...
September 12, 2025 at 6:46 PM
Gotta say United's SFO Club sucks compared to the one at Narita. Actually, compared to the Club on Guam too. #PaxEx

Got back on US soil yesterday after 17 days bouncing around the Pacific on United's Island Hopper and 24 hours later I'm back at SFO headed to LAX for @crankyflier.com's #Dorkfest #SpotLAX2025

This is how you know you are on Guam. The plane you hear could just as easily be military as it could be commercial. Hope to get a B-52 landing at Anderson. I saw one the last time I was here...

Pax are then routed downstairs to a new customs area. It's so new they are still putting the floor tiles in...
September 8, 2025 at 10:32 AM
But now that cludgy barrier is gone and arriving pax are routed upstairs from each gate to a new special purpose level that has been built.

#AVGeek time again. Departing Chuuk/TKK for Guam/GUM 🧵The departure gate at TKK...

If I can make it back from a 17 day excursion doing the Island Hopper on the 11th, I'll fly down to LAX on the 12th...
September 7, 2025 at 12:56 AM
So there you are, you are now an expert on United PNI flight ops. As a reward here's a few pics of my arrival at TKK...
September 5, 2025 at 6:42 AM
And since United won't use the second gate and because there is only one taxiway the arriving plane waits for the other to push back before it can get to the gate
September 5, 2025 at 6:42 AM
PNI has two gates but United prefers to use just gate 1. This can cause JFK style issues (I'll explain later). Here's gate 1 and like MAJ, there are dedicated seats for Premier pax. #PaxEx

Back to an #AVGeek 🧵, let's talk about Pohnpei airport PNI which I flew out of to Chuuk TKK yesterday United is the big fish in this pond...

The food...especially the seafood is top notch...if you know where to go to get it. If you like Sashimi you will not be disappointed and Poke is as good as you'll find on Hawaii.

There are WW2 relics to see but I just did not have the time to hit most of them.

But after Nan Madol you go cool off at Kepirohi Waterfall...

September 4, 2025 at 9:19 PM
And there is Nan Madol, probably the least visited UNESCO World Heritage Site on the planet. The drive out takes over an hour. The hike in with sweltering heat and humidity takes twenty minutes over challenging terrain.
September 4, 2025 at 9:19 PM
The water is warm and generally clear and would make for good snorkeling at the right location and the diving is fine but there's only one true operator on the island and the prices are higher here than on other central Pacific islands
September 4, 2025 at 9:19 PM
Catch up time on Pohnpei as I didn't have time to write this up...🧵Even though it's Micronesia's capital, infrastructure can be an issue. Most if not all hotels have issues of varying degrees. But Starlink is here in force at a lot of establishments.
