Started off SO STRONG.
Lots of visual flourishes.
But…
Then the movie kept going on & on, and mentally I was like “Girl, WRAP IT UP.” 🔪
I think it thinks it’s a lot smarter than it actually is. Plus that obnoxious, smug ending. 🙄

Was expecting this to be pretty terrible…but surprisingly it wasn’t that bad. It’s fine, lol.
Julia & George still have it.
Hopefully they can have it in a BETTER movie.
Also, can we talk about this movie’s INSANE ending?! 😭😭

Going from “Wonder” straight to this gave me emotional whiplash 🫨
But, definitely think this is a Top 5 Julia performance.
Also, Lucas Hedges playing Nicole Kidman’s son (“Boy Erased”) & Julia’s son in the same year. Okayyyyyyyy.

Gently wept while my ovaries shook.
She was literally MOTHERING. 😩

I think I enjoyed this more than most people.
But that’s probably because I like watching actresses play really stressed out TV producers & I have a thing for the “making TV/ making movies is hard” niche.

😩😩😩😩
At least until “After the Hunt”, lollll
But still 💔🔪
*Blocked out “Smurfs: The Lost Village” because I don’t watch movies where they’re just a voice.

Yeah that was pretty fucking terrible. 💀
Julia is so loyal to Papa Garry.
Despite him putting her an awful wig!
I actually remember when the trailer dropped & the public outrage over her wit.
Trauma!
PTWD: Post Traumatic Wig Disorder

Watched this last year during my Nicole deep dive.
Still think it’s wild that Julia Roberts & Nicole Kidman are in this movie together where they BARELY interact.
Even wilder that the writer/ director would go on to write Nicole’s AMC ad. 😭

Rewatched this for the first time since its premiere.
Omg, remember when Ryan Murphy used to actually make good stuff?!
Before the deluge of “American this” or “American that” 🥴

One of her best, idgaf.
Controversial to say I liked her more than Meryl here??
Or am I just THAT Julia pilled at this point. 😂

She had fun and she was funny.
But she was SO miscast!
Also, there’s a scene where Armie Hammer starts licking this woman’s hand because he’s under a “puppy love” curse…and that did not age well.

😭😭😭😭😭
Not counting “Smurfs: The Lost Village” because I don’t do voice acting movies.

Technically played at festivals in 2008, but had a 2011 theatrical release in the US…so was bracing myself for this to be bad.
Pleasantly surprised!
A quiet family melodrama.
Fairly underrated.
Was even able to tolerate Ryan Reynolds.

Julia, STOP DOING FAVORS FOR YOUR FRIENDS. 🔪

Ryan Murphy: Found at the scene of the crime again.
At least this gave me an excuse to cook & eat pasta while watching a movie.
Julia Roberts deserves carbs.

Such a 2010 movie & so many stray thoughts that have nothing to do with Julia.
But regarding Julia, her character should’ve been gay in this.
Also - her mid credits scene made me more emotional than anything that happened in the movie.

Here’s one last look at the decade that gave Julia her Oscar!!

Seeing Julia Roberts & Clive Owen together like this post “Closer” gives me some cognitive dissonance. 🫨🫨
But at the same time, this is better than “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”.

Mehhhh
For me, it’s more of the novelty of seeing Julia, Tom Hanks, & Philip Seymour Hoffman in a movie together.

I knew the movie had me as soon as Damien Rice’s “The Blower’s Daughter” started playing WHILE the Columbia logo was still on the screen.
😭😭😭
“IT TASTES LIKE YOU BUT SWEETER” is a line we don’t talked about enough. ✨Chilling✨

Yeah it’s not a perfect movie but…Marcia Gay Harden though.
Also, the way this movie ends with Kirsten Dunst hysterically crying while chasing after Julia Roberts on her bike will probably be how I feel once my Julia journey ends.

Femme Fatale Julia Roberts!
She REALLY goes for it in this movie.
And practically licks Sam Rockwell’s face.
You see TONGUE.

That moment when Julia Roberts as “Tess”, who doesn’t want to play Julia Roberts, does a classic Julia-ism & starts “yelling/ neurotically freaking out”.
And then the movie’s like “Yeah, that’s perfect” really got me.

Has (maybe?) my favorite Julia Roberts character entrance in her entire filmography.
Soderbergh just gets Julia Roberts.
We need them to work together again.

Enjoyed this more on the rewatch, since I knew what it was doing and where it was going.
I still think Julia’s wig in “the movie” is ATROCIOUS. Sodie Pop, wtf was that.
