Some of them are geared to children, but its so good:

Anything by Avi. (City of Orphans, Murder at Midnight)

Schmidt's Wednesday Wars + Okay For Now.

I have a few books hidden that I own that I hope I can add here.

I must confess I like reading morbidly funny sci fi.

Its not everyone's cup of tea due to the prose, but I recommend reading Ninefox Gambit series by Yoon Ha Lee.

Its a bunch of math nerds in space. Military science w/o the propaganda.

Start with his short stories to see if its up your ally!

Not near the area, but I appreciate every single one of my safety and defense instructors. Thanks for doing this. I'm rooting for you from here.

To anyone hesitating taking a class: you won't regret it. Its more dangerous being afraid of something you don't understand.

Have a good one everyone

Little House on the Prairie is up there with Pride and Prejudice for me.

Any books by Jack London for some survival horror type of dread.

Would you count Octavia Butler's Kindred as Historical Fic? Its Science Fiction for me, but also HF.

I like escapism, but also ones w survival as a theme
