When he finally stands up for her 👀

Draco had his fist in the man's robes before his lips parted.

"Finish that sentence Edwin," he growled. "I fucking beg you to try me. Come on old man, what did you mean to say?"

"You're on probation," Selwyn squawked, trying find his wand. Theo smacked his hand out of his pocket casually. "You'll go to Azkaban for this."

"Oh the terms of my probation are quite clear," Draco laughed dryly. "Dark magic is strictly prohibited."

Draco reared back and headbutt the shopkeeper directly in the nose, his face giving a sickening crunch as the man crumpled behind the counter. Pain burst behind his eyes and Draco doubled over with a hand to his forehead, letting out a string of expletives.

"Come on, let's go," Granger grabbed his arm and started tugging.

"No," Draco straightened up, reaching into his pocket. "I'm not done yet."

"Draco, don't!" Pansy cried out, but Draco just tossed a handful of muggle notes on the counter and swept up her purchases.

Here are some nibbles for you, let me know if you want this actually finished 😂

Granger grabbed an apple thoughtfully and made her way to the balcony, opening the door and tossing the offending fruit over the railing. It hit an invisible barrier just over the edge and bounced back to the stone tile harmlessly.

“Ah,” she said flatly. “If you were thinking of throwing yourself from the balcony, I'm afraid I have bad news.” Draco sighed once more and moved toward the table.

“It hadn't occurred to me, but thank you for the demonstration.”

Suddenly they were surrounded by applause.

“Oh how romantic! I said it wouldn’t take long, didn’t I, Genie? I said ‘there is no way I could spend the night in a room with that tall drink of water and not get a taste’, didn’t I say that?”

A delighted waif of a witch in fuschia robes with long purple false eyelashes clicked her long acrylic nails together while a stout woman in a fluorescent orange chortled, flicking through a rack of clothes. Draco glanced around as his eyes adjusted, noting that instead of being an outdoor lounge, they were in a small studio, equipped with spinning chairs and changing rooms.

“Erm… who are you?” Granger startled as the pink one tried to grab her arm, wrenched her hand backwards, and accidentally elbowed Draco. His hand automatically went to her back to steady her, a remnant of his upbringing.

“Oh where are my manners! I am Ernestine, and this is Genie-Doll. We are your stylists of course darling,” she drawled, making another attempt at capturing Granger's hand.

“No thank you,” Draco practically growled, turning to put himself between the witch and his wife. “We do not need your services. You’re dismissed.”

The lounge was a garish artificial paradise with fake turf around the pool, a bubble of heat charmed to make the whole area feel tropical. Granger pulled away from him and made a beeline for the edge of the balcony, reaching a hand out to confirm the barrier was there before leaning as far forward as she could.

“I think we missed it,” she groaned. “Everyone is gone. It must be almost time for Ron and Millicent.”

Draco grimaced and looked around at the assorted beanbags and chaise lounge chairs, noticing that their dinner had appeared at a cafe table by the hot tub.

“We may as well eat out here since they went to the trouble,” he grumbled. Granger nodded and made her way to the table, tugging at the short skirt. “Are you alright,” Draco said quietly.

“Fine,” she sniffed, giving a poorly disguised camera in a potted plant a significant look. “Just not accustomed to walking around nearly naked.”

Draco eyed the camera and started to search for others, finding them tucked in every corner, every post, and every innocent looking plant.

“Granger,” he growled in warning, “Granger you need to get down.”

She was sobbing and screaming, tears streaming down her red face as ten floors below, the limp body of Ronald Weasley was dragged out of sight, leaving behind a thin streak of blood on the pavement. The crowd at the gate was revolting, surging and shaking at the iron bars, screaming at the Aurors who began to march forward in a straight line with wands drawn. Draco reached up and hooked an arm around Granger's waist, hauling her back into the turf floor as she wailed like a wounded animal.

“Back to your rooms,” an Auror barked. Charlie spun around and threw himself forward, only to be hit with a stunning spell that sent him tumbling to the side like a rag doll. “I said, back to your rooms!”

Draco couldn't think or see or breathe as Granger writhed and fought in his grasp. He yanked her along, one of her shoes coming off and her skirt riding up to her waist, leaving her skimpy knickers exposed to the world. He was so preoccupied trying to keep her covered that he didn't even see the spell coming until he was suddenly trying to hold up all of her dead weight.

Okay, I'm doing this again with more than a single line because "Sometimes forgiveness is a smoke ring" needs a touch of context. This is probably my favorite fic I've ever written.

They all laughed a little. The ice was thawing, cracks spidering out under the pressure, and Hermione just sighed, leaning back into Draco with a little smile. Forgiveness and redemption did not look like it did in the movies. There were no grand gestures, no public declarations, no dramatic humblings. Sometimes moving forward was an exhausting uphill climb over rocky terrain that no one could prepare you for. Sometimes growth was showing up, even when it’s uncomfortable.

When the spliff made its way around the circle, Pansy reached out and took a polite drag, holding the smoke before gently pushing it out in a smoke ring. Hermione glanced up at Draco who smiled softly, no doubt remembering the first time they had smoked together in Neville and Theo’s garden.

Sometimes forgiveness was a smoke ring.

Playing around with a Charmione at the dragon preserve story when I ought to be finishing my current WIP's that are already on AO3 🙃

"This is so perfect," she sighed and unzipped her coat, revealing a trademark Molly Weasley family jumper underneath that made Charlie more homesick than he had been in years. "I love that you've embraced electricity and all muggle appliances."

"It's better for the dragons. They get skittish around too much magic, but they don't mind electric lights at all."

"Just like me," she laughed lightly, but Charlie clocked the strange look in her eyes.

"I'm just over the hill if you follow the path north. Feel free to stop by any time, although I'm out in the field quite a bit when Perdita is around."

"Perdita?" Hermione had gone very still, Charlie in the center of her focus, a feeling that was both crippling and exhilarating. But Charlie danced with dragons for fun, and this one was no different. All she needed was a gentle hand, to learn to trust him.

"I caught up on my Shakespeare," he said quietly with a lopsided grin. "After all, she's your dragon."

"A dragon for a daughter," Hermione smiled softly. "Whatever will Skeeter think?"
