Thomas Jefferson was so proud that he founded UVA, he instructed that his epitaph omit that he was President, but instead that he was the "Author of the Declaration of Independence [and] of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom & Father of the University of Virginia." He would no doubt be incensed that the federal government was demanding the resignation of any officer of the University of Virginia or any other college. As Ann Brown, a co-chairwoman of the advisory council of Wahoos4UVA - a group of students, alumni, faculty and staff committed to "viewpoint diversity and U.V.A.'s independence from political interference" told the @nytimes that if Jim Ryan were pushed out "it would be extremely damaging" to the university.
"But this also isn't about one man," Ms. Brown, who graduated from the university in 1974 and its law school in 1977, said. "It would be a symbolic surrender of the university's autonomy and commitment to free inquiry that, if allowed to stand by the Board of Visitors and Virginia's elected officials, would send a chilling message: that public universities in Virginia serve political agendas, not the commonwealth."

I’m trying to read this ARC, and I’m genuinely frustrated that the author is conflating her fake Y2k-adjacent job with Y2K bug itself being fake/a nonissue. Averting it was actually a cool cooperative success!

I was trying to interpret the words themselves as pilish, a word which I only know from this mathy-lit book, and it wasn’t working. Should have zoomed out 🥲

The solstice sun wasn’t hitting “her” chair right, so she kept batting at it to try to pull the sunlight over instead of climbing in. I have fixed it for her.
