I just need someone to clarify this statement, because I had assumed the Weston family was already okay and had been since [checks Wikipedia] 1882.

As a book designer, it can be overwhelming to see my covers for @coachhousebooks.bsky.social and realize I’m playing a small part in this history.

A smol crocus bloomed in our container garden seven storeys up. It’s the first in a few years (they usually sprout leaves and then call it a day).

Posting as timeline cleanse.

Just received these two bruisers I designed for @biblioasis.bsky.social.

Aaaaaand the I poster is as expected: a lot of vertical strokes.

Sigh. (Did you know many Dutch chocolatiers don’t make the initial I chocolate letter for Christmas? Hard time matching weight to other initials.)

Cover and interior design for Baldwin, Styron, and Me by @mabdelmoumen.bsky.social published by @biblioasis.bsky.social

Echoing covers from the ‘60s to reflect Baldwin and Styron’s era, I also grouped to hint at the relationships of all 3. (Can you tell I just had a lot of fun playing with type?)

On Book Banning by Ira Wells, published by @biblioasis.bsky.social

The Field Notes series design usually show high-contrast b+w siloed photos, but series designs morph over time. I tried an isolated burnt book photo, but it looked insignificant. So I burned the book itself #CoverDesign #BookDesign

Got home and this lovely creature was waiting for me: Baldwin, Styron, and Me by Mélikah Abdelmoumen. I’ll post about the design later.

Cover design for BACK WHERE I CAME FROM, an essay collection on culture, identity, and home, published by Bookhug Press.

I spun a landing plane to look like it’s taking off - a nod to ideas explored by these diasporic writers: caught between worlds and identities, unsure if they are coming or going

Just posting my main bookshelf, somewhat sorted by colour*, for no particular reason.

*Also sorted alphabetically so A-E is second-top shelf, and working down to Z at the bottom

Age yourself with a movie you saw in the theatre as a kid.*

*The reissue, of course, for someone’s 4th birthday party. (I’m not THAT old.) The theatre was overbooked, so I was placed in a strange man’s lap to watch the film. Imagine that happening these days.

Interview with author Bonnie Garmus includes some tasty book cover hate. And she got grief from hard romcom readers - this cover style screams hard romcom - over her deviations from the genre’s formula.
