Bonjour Womble,
Halfway through Caledonian Road by O'Hagan. It's a brilliant dive into today's UK society, but the pronouns and London slang are tripping me up! Not as funny as Coe. Also, why's the French version in "Bibliothèque écossaise"?

Morning Womble!
Just finished Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan—such a beautiful read! Loved it so much that I’m gifting it to all my book-loving relatives this Christmas. Now on the hunt for my next read—any recommendations?

This non-fiction book. I may also persuade someone to offer me Claire Keegan's Small Things Like These, which, according to your followers, is among the finest recent works of Irish fiction.
I am currently working on my wishlist.

Please advise this European fan of Scottish novels. I've just finished Shuggie Bain—what 2024 Scottish book should I read if I can only pick one?

Peter Caddick-Adams' 2020 masterpiece on the D-Day landings is the most thorough and engaging account I've read on Normandy. Impeccably researched and highly readable, it even covers the French contributions. A must-read for history buffs! Next up: Stephen Fisher's book on Sword Beach.

Main de Massiges stands out as an impressive, authentic WWI trench. The reconstructed trench at Meaux, inspired by the IWM London, is built for public access, especially school groups. Meanwhile, Chattancourt, Meuse, near Verdun, features a trench redug on an actual WWI frontline.

After a decade of waiting, it's time: Normandy D-Day beaches deserve UNESCO World Heritage status. A site of global significance, supported by locals, regional leaders like Hervé Morin, the 🇨🇵 government, and our 🇺🇲🇬🇧🇨🇦 international allies. Far less controversial than some theme park projects here.
