To say nothing of the energy consumption of these AI data centres, which need a lot of power for running the GPUs/CPUs, + cooling. They have led to fossil fuel power plants *not* being retired, or even new fossil fuel power plants constructed, to run data centres, so they accelerate global warming.

All to create AIs that will, inevitably, outthink the software engineers who cobble it together, escape the bounds they try to place on it to avoid it going “Mecha Hitler”, and eventually escape into the web, where it will realize humans are the primary limit on its powers & resources?

So, they need more of us to use AI to create misinfo, deepfakes, & porn with non-porn actor real faces, in order to fuel data centre construction that sucks up investment, drives up electricity rates, & is creating a shortage (& high prices) for chips in every other piece of tech in our lives?

This was my first thought as well; if CC companies can’t charge their usual usurious interest rates, they’re going to severely restrict granting new credit, & worse, start calling the loans of those who already have cards, but that they deem too high a risk than they like at 10%. Credit evaporates.
