Also for laser labs, if the physicist giving the tour is wearing their safety goggles, you should really be wearing your safety goggles

Not sure, but that looks awesome. How many pumps are attached to that vacuum chamber?

From this picture, the orange cables look like rf cables attached to AOMs which switch the lasers on and off, as well as add a frequency shift. Other than that it's usually just a bunch of mirrors, beam cubes, and waveplates.
