kind of a bummer that this one’s been parodied to death by your Scary Doors and what have you because that ending would have stung like a motherfucker had i not 100% already known it was coming

ooooohhhh this is the one that’s aged in some way in 2025 huh. evergreen in its sympathy for people who foster emotional relationships with artificial intelligence - what we deprive them of that would drive them to it
also, jean marsh!

first two thirds go off in an amazing direction that ultimately feels too good for the ending. getting the feeling after a couple episodes serling would look at the “man in suit” ideal of don draper much as one would sephiroth today

FULL BODY SOBBING. the premise is maybe the simplest version of itself it can possibly be but that’s why the writing hits you over and over like a fucking bat. goddammit. GODDAMMIT

both a salient critique and sign of the times that ida lupino, a woman who would have been 40 while filming, has everyone begging her to accept that she’s practically one foot in the grave
very dreamy logic, but i think it works

on the one hand i think a lot of the ep was just fine but on the other, i liked the ending - it’s the kind of idea that runs dangerously close to feeling like a moralizing copout but for the most part i felt they pulled it off

imagine hearing word of mouth about episode 1, tuning in for ep 2, and having rod serling say “hello america, tonight i am going to make you watch beloved star of stage & screen ed wynn FUCKING DIE”
just kind of okay but it’s got some charm on its side!

S01 EP01 “Where is Everybody?”
mostly rock solid thesis ep a la “sardines” which very accessibly introduces what the series is gonna be. ending’s kinda soft but got a lot on its mind.
