Ugh. Also that whole dynamic is very different in NYC and Israel than it is elsewhere. Everywhere else in the world we see the meshichists as fringe weirdos

That is to say, you can still find other synagogues to go to, but a lot more than just Hasidim will find themselves in Chabad communities

In NYC you’re kind of spoiled for choice when it comes to streams of Judaism to follow, which synagogues to go to. I imagine the deal in Australia is more comparable to how it is in Canada

Yeah. As a former Chabadnik (and former Zionist) the hegemony they have on Jewish life in a lot of places around the world weighs heavily.

Unfortunately Chabad is an expressly Zionist organization. And we’re gonna have to wrestle with that at some point. But not today.
