the job of the translator is to leave as many words untranslated as possible by saying you can't translate them 1:1 to the target language. this is good translating.

obviously it's not always as simple as "hai means yes" but i feel like even in instances where hai is not best translated as yes, there is usually a very clear different translation from context. i can't think of any instance in which it is better to just put "hai".

basically my stance is: a wiki is supposed to be a recording of facts of the actual story. if you're ignoring actual things in the media you're supposedly making an encyclopedia of in favor of your own inventions, you're a bad wiki

it's similar to a frustration with how bs01 handles things, where they iron every summary down into a singular defined canon that isn't used in any actual media. it's entirely an invention of greg answers, which are held as gospel over anything else, and it's annoying

clearly, for all intents and purposes, in the spiderverse movies, this is the miles and gwen of their original universes. that's the authorial intent. and it should be the job of a wiki to record that honestly, not make up your own canon to explain inconsistencies with the original comics
