Recasting Newt would have been unpopular but killing her off was worse. Fincher made the best of a cursed production. As a conclusion to a Ripley-as-Cassandra trilogy it's a valid end to her tragic arc (although Resurrection undid that again) but it works best as a stand-alone monster movie IMO.

When I first saw Idiocracy I noticed a definite point where it pivoted from satire to absurdity. Every time I've re-watched it since, every couple of years, that point has moved further into the movie. Before long I expect it'll disappear altogether and the whole thing will have become documentary.
