A not so small 2am bits and bobs from one of my current WIP’s

Ace of Spades
Text that states: Like any good lawyer all agreements require a contract. Alex isn’t sure purple crayon on construction paper is the most dignified of contracts, but he has worked with less and come out on top. Still he whines about it. “Did it really have to be crayon? Is there not some pen and a napkin anywhere that we could use instead? I need to retain my dignity.” Henry raises an eyebrow at him from where he is perched knees around his ears in a seat far too small for his body across from Alex, in the same boat, at a table shaped like a paint palette in one of the empty youth rooms at the shelter. Text that states: “Might I remind you dear Alexander that you were the one demanding that we determine a contract of “extenuating circumstances” and “rules” for this fake relationship that I foisted you into this morning, of which I am still terribly sorry for.” Alex waves his hand at Henry’s face. “Yeah, yeah, save it. You did a good thing and got Hunter off my back, so thank you. I just accidentally insinuated we are soulmates to keep Hunter away and I am not really willing to back out on my word.”

Alex knows that it looks like something out of a movie right now, but this is not the happy-go-lucky coming of age film he hoped his life would become. They started off as enemies, became reluctant friends during a timeout at six years old where they were forced to share the same “get along shirt,” and have been quite inseparable ever since. OR, when playing for different college soccer teams pulls Alex and Henry to opposite coasts, they exchange letters to keep up. Falling in love along the way wasn't the plan, but maybe it was inevitable.
