A game of broken telephone -- this sculpture was inspired by the beautiful drawing by Ernest Harris Jr (swipe to see) -- which was inspired by a sculpture in the royal pavilion, which was inspired by a fantasy of Chinese culture... layers of appropriation and reinterpretation

Glaze magic

Finally completed my 7 clay body tests -- for each I made a little coiled vase, a thrown milk jug and a shrinkage ruler and fired them with some glazes that I know can be a bit fussy on certain clays. It has taken me so long that I've discovered two more clays I need to try before I decide

Working on a tribute to the amazing @ernestharrisjr -- based on a drawing he did in the Brighton pavilion of a Chinese-inspired dog. Layers of re-interpretation. Now I need to decide what colour to glaze him... possibly a jade green?

Impossible to photograph this glaze, but I love how it has made the bands of iron oxide go a greenish brown.

When I opened the kiln I was thrilled with these -- but then noticed they have lots of pinholes -- I've read that just refiring as they are might "heal" the bubbles a bit. It's only in spots where I have Mayco Rose Quartz on its own, on St Thomas buff, if anyone has any clever tips!
