Former AP, IndyStar, a few other places.
We're doing a reading series with local writers and Indiana Humanities, and recording them for radio. The next one is Saturday at 1 PM if you'd like to join us on WQRT.org. We are promoting the arts in our community and helping lift up the work of these writers.

Was driving by CVS and decided to get my flu shot.

Hey, they said, as long as you're here, why don't we do Covid?

And while we're at it, how about RSV and DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis). ...

On the mountain in Tennessee... They had to take a tree down, so everybody pitched in to help cut it up.

Good to catch up after a busy weekend: In Evansville, Ind., on Friday and Saturday for an incredibly beautiful wedding. Up at 5:30 on Sunday for glider practice in Alexandria, including a simulated tow-rope break and emergency landing....

Being back reminds me of a three-day trip from Louisville to Paducah on a barge tow when we lived here. About midnight the second day out they let me drive for a while. News orgs don't often let people loose to work on a weeklong feature story anymore. This ran in papers around the country.

Discovering the charm of Riverside Drive near the Ohio River as we stroll through downtown Evansville today. Each of the historic homes has its own character, from ornate porches to sprawling lawns. It's great to be back in the city where we spent a couple of years with the AP as a correspondent.

Took a little detour and ended up in Alexandria, Indiana, home of the world's largest ball of paint. If you're into gospel music, this is also the home of Bill Gaither. For lunch, there is The Curve restaurant. Rebecca, who's in charge around here, says try the lasagna. It's on special.

Our New York daughter is in town and is more of a Pilates person than I am, so I tease her sometimes about coming out to walk. We're in a string of 95° days, so I don't blame her for staying inside.

First flight lesson in a sailplane today. Great thermals and a patient instructor made for an amazing day : )

Took my 360 camera for a motorcycle ride today and instead of editing the video myself, let the machine do it. Don't agree with all the choices, but it's fascinating to see how far the tech has come in just a couple years.

Taught English and social studies classes today as a substitute. Thoughtful eighth graders working on presentations about civil rights.

Another class worked on advice they would have for younger kids.

"Treat people nice," one boy said. "You don't know what they're going through."

My local Fox station asked me to come on to talk about the effect of cutting funding for public media. I tried to find somebody more qualified, but it's a sensitive topic for the stations. Did the best I could : )

I'm a candidate for the board in our neighborhood association and thought the campaign could use a headshot. Just can't decide between today's pic and the only slightly touched-up version from AI.
