iirc a lot of people who do "challenge runs" like this (looking at Just Background Noise in particular) straight up acknowledge this, it's just that the YouTube algorithm *really* likes "Can you beat X as/with Y?" as a video title

overall the game is fine if you want literally just "5e but slightly better" but frankly idk why we're shooting for a slightly tall hill when we could be aiming for the stars.

every turn felt like people were able to do too much at once, and it felt very lopsided as a result. Edges are better than advantage for adjusting rolls but still worse imo than just using 3.x style bonuses. I can do math, mcdm, I promise.

which frankly feels like the worst aspects of how people play 5e but codified. combat was... fine, overall? wordings on some abilities could be clearer and I am not a fan of "describe how you do this" as a mechanic in general when the game tries so hard to appear as a permissive system wrt abilities

hp was good for exactly one thing ever and that was getting American 3rd graders to read a bit more because the books were laughably easy to pick up but frankly even then it was always like "why aren't you reading Percy Jackson instead?" plus let's be real Rowling got insane Right Time/Place'd

-Just having her be one but hiding it, Ember feels like "what if we play with elf ages but make her super young instead of super old?" etc etc etc. and I feel like a lot of the better-written companions were the ones where they just... don't do this lol.

truth be told, a lot of NPCs feel like they were written from the starting point of "how do we twist this common ttrpg PC trope?" and got varying levels of development from there. Nenio toys with the idea of a PC hiding their ancestry by having her genuinely forget, Cam pokes at murder hobos by-

-them to her, if they were going to put so much narrative focus on her anyway. I do still like the concept of an innocent childlike character joining the party and being that sort of naïve moral center, because that's cool, but the delivery leaves a bit to be desired.)

(in all seriousness tho I see where you're coming from, and definitely understand the frustration. a lot of her redemptive story beats would probably be better served by just having Arue join the party sooner and giving-

also it sucks that if you don't recruit Regill you miss out not only on quest content but also some of the better Crusade units

yeah cam is admittedly (probably) the weakest-written character and honestly kind of a huge missed opportunity. and I say this as someone who LOVES wotr.

obviously we include some battles somewhere. and an enchantment callback to the siege cycle where it enters and you choose either Empire or Stormcloaks. Caius Cosades gets a card. He's just a 1 mana 0/2 who can loot or something. idk.

okay i thought of how to justify serana in naya, just have her be boros and give her a choose a background-style ability that does the Job Select but Aura thing for her Dragonborn. bam, ez pz, this game design shit ain't nothing
